High risk work licensing for lifts and escalators.

New guidance has been published in conjunction with industry groups, consultants, unions and worker representatives to clarify licence requirements in the lift and escalator industry.

Inspectors to target consultation and incident notificationWith a recent rise in businesses failing to notify of serious incidents and consult with workers and their representatives appropriately, Workplace Health and Safety Queensland inspectors are auditing businesses to ensure compliance with these duties.

Person falls from tank

In November 2020, a man sustained serious head injuries after falling from a water tank that had just been put in place by a vehicle loading crane. It appears he was standing on the tank close to the crane.

Falling building materials

In November 2020, glass balustrading from a high-rise balcony shattered and fell onto a ground level building access way. Initial enquiries indicate building rectification work was being done on the balcony at the time. No injuries were reported.
